You must witness for Christ because you love the lost (if you
don't, you should begin to question whether you are actually a
Christian yourself.) The most loving thing you can do for someone who
isn't saved is to present the gospel to them in the hopes of bringing
them to that saving relationship with the Lord. Galatians 5:22 lists
love as one of the fruits of the Spirit. It is in the nature of love
to give. Take for example the famous passage in John 3:16, "For
God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son..."
Love gives, and if you have only a small portion of the love of God,
you will want to give it to others so that they will share in the
love of God too.
Witness because it is the wise thing to do. Proverbs 11:30 says " ...he that winneth souls is wise." Now's the chance to improve your
wisdom. Solomon prayed for this gift above all other things and God
approved of his prayer. If God says that I'll be wise in witnessing to
win souls, then how could I be disobedient to His leading? We should want to be wise in
God's sight, not according to the standards of the corrupt and sinful
world.
Witness to keep people out of Hell. Hell is a real and terrifying place of
anguish, pain and eternal separation from God. “Eternal” means
for ever, with no let up. Ever! Once you go to Hell, there is no
escape from the white hot retribution of the wrath of God. Those who
are not saved go to Hell. Some people will say that “a loving God won't
send anyone to Hell.” That's a lie from Satan himself and based on an idolatrous view of a self-created god. A loving God
can't do anything else but send sinners to Hell. As someone put it,
“I love children, therefore I hate abortion and those who kill
children.” – God loves the world and He rejoices in His creation,
therefore He hates sin because it destroys the very thing that He
created and loves. Witnessing is your opportunity to keep sinners out of
Hell's fire.
Witness because it pleases God and brings glory to His name. Every
time you share the Gospel with someone, you glorify the Name of the
One who sent you. Just as a diplomat or emissary speaks with the
authority of the one that sent them, the witness speaks with the
awesome authority of the Almighty Creator of the universe.
Witness so that those who are lost may find the love and fellowship of God (1 John 1:3) “That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.” This is the greatest gift that you can ever give to anyone. I can't think of anything better; not money, not fame, not even your own love. It frees the sinner from sin, it delivers the lost from eternal damnation, and it reveals the true and living God to those who don't know Him. The angels of heaven go wild with enthusiastic praise when anyone passes from judgment into salvation (Luke 15:10). Shouldn't we rejoice just a little bit too, when we see someone saved? Shouldn't we be weeping over the lost? Shedding tears for those who denied God, turned their backs on the One who could save them and went to the grave without that blessed assurance of salvation that comes through repentance and faith in Christ. Shouldn't we be praying that the Lord of the harvest sends labourers into His fields (Luke 10:2)? Too Right! The salvation of others is our task here in this world. The love of God should be your motive. Is there anything greater?
That's why we witness!
