Living
Waters

Commission
John 20:21
Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath
sent me, even so send I you.
Folly
Romans 1:22-25
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
And
changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to
corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping
things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the
lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between
themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and
served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever.
Amen.
A Barrier
Romans
8:8
So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God
On Your Guard
Romans 16:17-18
Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and
offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid
them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their
own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of
the simple.
Only One Gospel
Galatians 1:9
As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any
other
gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
Persecution
John 16:2-3
... the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think
that he
doeth God service. And these things will they do unto you, because they
have not known the Father, nor me.
Not Ashamed
Rom 1:16-18
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of
God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and
also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed
from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by
faith. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against
all
ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in
unrighteousness;
Free Software
for Preachers and Evangelists
Remember
the "golden days," when preachers used to pack up a bible and a few
Gospel tracts and go out into the world and preach the Gospel? Remember
when the pinnacle of "technology" used to be a folding sketchboard
with telescopic
legs? Things have changed a little in the last few years and many
evangelists and preachers are beginning to use computers creatively in
the presentation and delivery of the message. On this page, you will
find links and downloads of helpful software and services for those who
preach the
Word. You'll find Bible study aids, Word Processors and other stuff to
help you. One of the problems with such software is that it is usually
very expensive and, once you've bought the thing, you find it isn't
exactl
y what you thought it was, (hmm..
sermon illustration in there, I feel.)
We've tried to find the best of the freely available stuff for
you
and your ministry. "Free" doesn't equal "Sub-Standard" these days and
there are plenty of folk who are willing to let you have software for
nothing! How good is that?
If you don't find what you need listed here, try the main
"Resource" page.
Processing the
Word
OpenOffice.Org
A more than able, free
of charge, replacement for the expensive MS
Office. All the
functions of the major office suite are available here for free,
including word
processing, spreadsheet, database and graphics. All the usual functions
are well represented, with
the added bonus of being able to write directly to the Adobe PDF format
(thus saving the majority of us from needing to purchase a full version
of
Acrobat.)
AbiWord
AbiWord is a good,
general purpose
word processor for a variety of operating systems that does all the
usual page formatting and layout
functions. It has a nice interface and is easy to install and use.
General Utilities
Naomi
The internet is an evil
place, (all the more reason to get out there
with the Gospel.) To protect you and your family from unintentional
access to this evil, Naomi is a more than adequate content filter,
available free of charge on instant download.
AVG Anti-Virus
To protect your computer
from the nasties, AVG gives a regularly
updated protective shield against viruses that could destroy your data.
Cute PDF
This is a little utility
that is addressed like a printer. Instead, it
writes your output to a PDF file. This means that every package you use
has the potential to produce the widely accepted Adobe Acrobat PDF
format.
Audacity
Use this great free
program to record and re-master your sermons and
messages. Additional downloads enable you to record to the
standard MP3 audio format.
JAP
(
Java Anonymity
& Privacy)
Anonymous browsing does
have an air
of suspicion about it. If you wish to surf the internet and leave no
trace of your presence, it could be construed as criminal, but it could
also rid you of a whole load of unwanted spam and unwelcome tracing.
There may come a time, for Christians, when anonymity is a matter of
personal safety.
Bible Software
E-Sword
E-Sword is a widely
used, free Bible
study program that has multiple versions, commentaries, dictionaries
and other helps. In January 2007, E-Sword celebrated its 5,000,000th
download.
Sword
Project
Similar to E-Sword but
available for a wider range of operating systems under the open source
principle.
Viewers and
Players
Adobe
Reader
You'll need this to read
the widely used PDF file format.
WinAmp
WinAmp has been around
for years and now they're giving it away free! WinAmp
is a capable player for most media formats that you find on the
internet today,
both audio and video. It will also act as an "Internet Radio" to listen
to all those web-based stations across the world.
Zionworx
If you or your church
needs a program
to handle that troublesom data projector, you could do a lot worse than
ZionWorx. It's free and fully functional to display your readings,
lyrics and presentations.
Web Site Software
Nvu
Pronounced "N-View"
gives a nice "WYSIWYG" environment for the
development of web sites. However, this seems to be no longer developed. There is a replacement program called Komposer,
which is, to all intents and purposes, an upgrade to Nvu. Both programs
are excellent environments for web page development..
Joomla
You do need your service
provider to install Joomla on your web space
but, once installed, this content management system gives you endless
ability to redesign and develop your web sites to professional standard.
OSCommerce
If you have the need to
take orders for materials that you produce,
OSCommerce is a freely available online shop that provides most things
you'd need.
Zen Cart
Alternatively, you could try Zen Cart, which is also available for
free. This purports to be easier to install than OSCommerce, but I
guess it would be wise to have a look at both if you wanted to go all
commercial.
And
Finally... For Those Who Want It All And
Want It Now..
The
Open CD
The OpenCD has been going for a few years now and is periodically
updated. It includes a wide variety of freely available, open source,
software titles that can provide you with a complete, basic set without
spending a fortune for it. It usually includes the latest OpenOffice,
Nvu, Gimp, Firefox and all the usual freebies. Later CD's have included
Scribus, a page layout package to give you a bit more DTP-like
functionality. Version 4 (current as of 6th Feb 2006) is a nearly 500Mb
ISO file but it burns nicley into a useable CD.
If you ever fancied a refreshing change to the usual MS
Windows that comes delivered as standard on most PC's, Linux
is an operating system that has been developed according to users needs
rather than what someone wants to sell. Most Linux "flavors" are free
to download and relatively easy to install. You can run them instead
of, or as a switchable alternative to, the Microsoft product.
As the whole principle
of "freely received, freely given," was actually
introduced by Jesus, it seems logical that Christian developers would
produce specific Christian versions of Linux. Here are a couple for
your general edification:
Ubuntu
- Christian Edition
A 700Mb ISO download
gives you a CD that either runs by itself or
installs the system on your workstation/PC. It has all the usual
utilities associated with these single disk distributions but also has
GnomeSword Bible program and a few other goodies to do with parental
filtering and browsing.
Ichthux
- Christian Edition of KUBUNTU.
Alternatively, you could
try ICHTHUX - another Linux "flavor" specifically aimed
at Christian users. The name is based on the old Christian fish symbol
(Ichthus) and the word "Linux". The current version is
available from their website.
The download (ISO file)
is pretty big, at nearly 700mb, but it burns nicely
onto an installation CD for the Op System. For those who are familiar
with Linux "distros" this is based on the KDE UBUNTU/Debian version of
the
system and has the usual bits and pieces plus Christian related
utilities built in.
